Legal Test Print
Legal size (8.5 x 14 inches) is a US-specific paper size that shows up constantly in law offices, contracts, and certain government and business forms — and it causes a very particular, very avoidable problem: it's the same width as ordinary Letter paper, just longer, so a printer can load it without any obvious error and then silently cut off the last few inches of a document because the driver is still set to Letter.
Before you print: enable Background graphics in the print dialog's "More settings," and set the paper size to Legal so the physical sheet matches what this test is checking.

What This Reveals About Your Printer
Because Legal shares Letter's width, your printer will usually accept the sheet in the tray without complaint even if the driver is set wrong — there's no size mismatch to trigger an error message. Instead, content that should land near the bottom of the page just doesn't print at all, or gets pushed onto an unwanted second sheet. This test prints all the way to Legal's true length, so if your last section is missing or spilling onto an extra page, that confirms the driver's paper-size setting needs to be changed to Legal, not that anything is broken.
Legal Test Page FAQ
Why didn't my printer show an error if it was set to the wrong paper size?
Legal and Letter paper are both 8.5 inches wide — only the length differs — so a printer set to Letter will happily feed a Legal sheet without any size-mismatch warning. It simply stops printing content at the 11-inch mark instead of continuing to Legal's full 14 inches, with no error at all.
How do I set my printer to Legal size by default?
Open your printer's properties or preferences from your operating system's printer settings and change the default paper size to Legal, the same place you'd switch to A4 — do this once and it applies to future print jobs from that printer without needing to change it per document.
Is Legal size used outside the United States?
Rarely — it's a primarily US and Canada paper size tied to the same Letter/Legal system rather than the international ISO A-series. Most other countries use A4 for general documents and wouldn't stock Legal paper at all.
