What This Reveals About Your Printer

Because yellow reflects so much light back at the eye even in a fairly thin layer, it's the hardest of the four inks to judge by sight on white paper — a 30% weaker yellow can look almost identical to a full-strength one under normal room lighting. This test page is deliberately built to make that easier: compare the solid block against your screen, and pay closer attention to the tint gradient below it, where a fading channel shows up as the light end losing warmth and going gray sooner than it should. If your printed color mixes have looked slightly "cool" or "flat" compared to what you designed on screen, a weak yellow channel is a common, easy-to-miss cause.

Yellow Test Page FAQ

Why is yellow harder to check than cyan or magenta?

Yellow ink reflects most visible light even in a thin or partial layer, so a weakened yellow channel doesn't create the obvious contrast drop that a fading cyan or magenta bar does. It takes a closer, more deliberate look to catch.

How do I know if my yellow is actually weak, not just naturally light-colored?

Compare the printed block directly against this page on your screen in good, even light — daylight or a white LED lamp, not warm/yellow-toned lighting, which will throw off the comparison. Look especially at the tint gradient: a healthy yellow channel holds its warmth most of the way across; a weak one turns pale and grayish earlier than it should.

Can a clogged yellow nozzle cause banding I wouldn't notice on a solid page?

Yes — thin horizontal gaps in the solid yellow block are just as valid a sign of clogged nozzles as they are in any other color, they're just visually subtler against white paper. Look closely under good lighting rather than assuming a clean-looking yellow block means no clog at all.
